bangkok in our sights...

Greetings all,

It has been some time now since our last post, seeing how it was about our epic trek, we needed some time to recover and take it all in. Now that we have our feet firmly underneath us again, and some downtime at one of the fine "smoke/spit free" internet cafe's...as i type this someone really hocked one in the back, something we are not quite used to but will become so by the end of this all...anyway, we are quite ready to venture to some warm weather and sandy beaches. While we have really enjoyed our stay here in busan, nick and nicole have been more than gracious hosts, we know that the time has come to really dive into the south.

With that being said we have booked our next flight to bangkok departing jan 14th. Upon arrival we will be greeted by doug and tom, maeve's parents friends who reside in bangkok and have offered to put us up for a couple days. The weekend will be spent at their beach house...I know really roughing it still, tough, tough life. We are hoping to be re-energized by the bountiful fruit and endless amount of sunlight which awaits. As much as we have "enjoyed" the kim-chi with every meal we need a change, for both our sake and our bowels.

We hope all is well back home, we really love getting to see comments from everyone along the way. It gives us an energy we cannot find anywhere else here. If we could have you all in our backpacks we would, but for now these words and the photos we post will have to suffice. We are debating opening a flicker account to get some more pics up there...but we will keep you posted on that endeavour.

We will likely have one post left in us here in busan before we depart, but until then we are sending as much sun and warmth through this screen to melt that ice and snow which must be building up around you.

ciao for now,

jay/maeve

  1. Hi travellers ... I have never seen so much warmth and joie de vivre emanating from anyone like the two of you. You seem to be having a marvellous time (all hocking aside). As I write there is more snow coming down on T.O. so I am envious of the sun you will soon be enjoying in Bangkok.

    Keep well and keep enjoying.

  2. I didn't know ciao was a Korean greeting. I'll "note to file" that one.
Please give Doug and Tom a big hug from MJ and I when you see them. And yes you will be roughing it, sitting out on the deck chair sipping on a mai-thai or a singapore sling gazing out at the islands over the crystal clear ocean. See you soon. Love Emilios and MJ
I have it from a compitant source that the correct spelling of the word is "hork, horked, horking,..... horkish, etc ad nauseum (he was in a punk band by the same name, no word of a lie).

  4. We missed you both yesterday at Nana's house. Although even in your absence there were still Jason jokes about height and 'arm's reach' :) Can't wait to see more pics and read more entries (although you really don't have to be that graphic about the 'horking').

  5. Love to the both of you... I'm so glad you're having a great time on your Wanderjahr! (google it!)

Mom and I might be doing a bit of this in July. I'm working with 3-4 clients in South Africa and if only 2 of them come through as planned, then we'll be off for at least 2 weeks.

The plan would be to take some time for ourselves and do at least 2-3 nights in a game reserve - possible Sabi-Sabi where we went together.

Your great tale of the Temple trek ended abruptly. Where did you sleep that night? Was there a hostel? Or did you snuggle up on Buddha's Toes for the night?

    Love you both,
    Have fun, stay safe

Oh, and MORE PICTURES PLEASE, maybe I can feel like I'm there in your backpack.

Lots of love to you both from this side of the world!
